Sunday, April 3, 3:00 pm - Derek Han Memorial Concert

Pre-concert talk with Robert Sherman at 2:15 pm

We celebrate the legacy of Derek Han, La Musica’s co-founder and co-artistic director, with his favorite piece of music to perform (Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G minor). Performing in this concert will be a close friend and colleague of Derek’s – a world-renowned pianist – whose name we can’t reveal yet, but we guarantee you will want to be at this concert to hear this impressive musician.

Ludwig van Beethoven • Piano Trio in G Major, Op. 1 no. 2

Maurice Ravel • Sonata for Violin and Cello

Johannes Brahms • Quartet for Piano and Strings in G Minor, Op. 25

Wednesday, April 6, 7:30 pm - Innocence and Illicit Passion

Pre-concert talk with Robert Sherman at 6:45 pm

The 15-year-old Mozart celebrated completion of his second set of string quartets by composing his sunny first viola quintet. One hundred years later, Franck created his piano quintet, secretly dedicated to his young lover. Is passion audible?

Wolfgang Mozart • String Quintet in Bb, K.174

Bernhard Romberg • Trio for Cello, Viola and Bass in E Minor, Op. 38 no. 1

César Franck • Quintet for Piano and Strings in F Minor

Sunday, April 10, 3:00 pm - Strut and Fret

Pre-concert talk with Robert Sherman at 2:15 pm

The sun never sets on the popularity of the guitar: from the courtly flair of a Fandango to the fresh music of the moment, this stringed chameleon reflects every era.

Luigi Boccherini • Guitar Quintet in D Major, G.448, “Fandango”

Giacomo Susani • Quintet for Guitar and String Quartet

Antonín Dvořák • Quintet for Piano and Strings in A Major, Op. 81

Wednesday, April 13, 7:30 pm - From Darkness into Light

Pre-concert talk with Robert Sherman at 6:45 pm

Mozart’s dark and stormy piano quartet may have deterred its publisher, but it showed the way from the Classical to the Romantic – so Tchaikovsky owes Mozart (and Florence) for his inspiration. This souvenir is beyond festive – think 1812 without the cannons.

Wolfgang Mozart • Quartet for Piano and Strings in G Minor, K. 478

Zoltan Kodály • Serenade for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 12

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky • String Sextet in D Major, Op. 70, Souvenir de Florence
